Truist Field

Truist Field

Truist Field is a baseball stadium located in Charlotte, North Carolina. It hosts the Charlotte Knights, a Triple-A Minor League Baseball team in the International League. The stadium is in the Uptown-area and is the third sports building to be built in Uptown, after Bank of America Stadium and Spectrum Center.

The Knights had been trying to get a new stadium in Charlotte for a long time. There was a lot of debate about it, but in the end, they got their new stadium. Unfortunately, the new stadium didn’t help their attendance much. Their old stadium was located in Fort Mill, South Carolina and it was 30 minutes away from Charlotte. A lot of fans weren’t willing to drive that far to see a game. In the new millennium, the Charlotte Knights had the worst attendance in the International League.

The Charlotte Knights began play in 1976 as the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. In 1988, the team rebranded itself as the Knights and took on Charlotte’s Queen City nickname. In 1992, the Double-A team relocated to Nashville, and a new Triple-A International League expansion franchise took its place in Charlotte.

The city hosted a number of Minor League franchises from 1892 through 1972, most of which were named the Charlotte Hornets. Even though Charlotte is known as the Queen City, it put up a vicious defense during the Revolutionary War. The city's NBA team was named after the "Hornets" because of the city's rich history. The people of the city were known for their steadfast opposition to colonial rule, which is why the NBA team was named after them.

Truist Field is home to more than just Knights games. The stadium has also hosted two Chicago White Sox exhibition games, the ACC Baseball Championships. There are many places to watch a game at Truist Field – regardless of what you're there for. The seating bowl encompassing most of the stadium is great for watching a Knights game. If you want an even closer view of the action, the Dugout Suites are closer to home plate than the pitcher is. The right-field Home Run Porch offers elevated views of the game.

The Charlotte Knights will host a total of six college baseball games during the upcoming season. These games will be part of the Sunbelt Rentals Collegiate Baseball Series.

The 2021 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Tournament is set to take place at Truist Field. The 2020 tournament was scheduled for this venue, but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
