The Bojangles Coliseum opened in Charlotte, North Carolina on Sept. 11, 1955 as the first civic auditorium and sports and concert venue and has a seating capacity of 19,077 for basketball games and 17,497 for hockey games. These multipurpose venues have hosted a range of events over the years, from top-touring concerts to symphony and opera performances. It is a home to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League and the Charlotte 49ers of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. They’re also a popular spot for graduations and other diverse entertainment events.
It was home to the NBA's Charlotte Hornets from 1988 to 2002, and has hosted many other events over the years, including concerts, circuses, and motorsports.
In 2005, the naming rights to the arena were sold to Bojangles' Famous Chicken 'n Biscuits, and the venue was renamed Bonjangles Coliseum. The arena is currently home to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League and the Charlotte Hounds of Major League Lacrosse.

This complex, known today as Ovens Auditorium and Bojangles’ Coliseum, has been host to many concerts and sporting events, as well as graduations and ice skating with family and friends. Multiple generations of Charlotteans have walked through the doors of these historic venues, which have become a defining piece of Charlotte’s storied history.
Prior to the construction of the Charlotte Coliseum, Charlotte Convention Center, Blumenthal Performing Arts venues and Time Warner Cable Arena, the auditorium and coliseum were the main places for concerts, cultural performances, family shows, religious events, sporting events, conventions, trade shows and the like.
